Top Minor Leagues (the other thread)

I promise I didn't steal New Orleans' idea. I have also been working on team prospect rankings myself and was waiting for the draft to finish before posting them.

I'm sure there are quite a few similarities between mine and New Orleans'. My rankings are based on: Baseball America, Baseball Prospectus, MLB.com, and FanGraphs.com. Like with the other rankings, I gave 100 points for #1 on their list, and 1 point for #100 on their list.

Where my rankings will differ is players outside the Top 100. In all reality, there isn't much of a difference between the #100 player on a list and the number #101 player who just missed out on making the list. So I thought it might be nice to expand on the lists a little bit. For example, Baseball America posted a list of 10 players who just missed out on making the list. I assigned each of them 0.75 points. They also posted a list of the next 100 or so players who received votes to be in the Top 100, but didn't make the list. I assigned each of them 0.5 points. I did this for all 4 lists (except MLB.com didn't have a list of those who just missed out).

Finally, many foreign players like Yoan Moncada, Hector Olivera, Raisel Iglesias, Andy Ibanez, Yasmany Tomas, Jung-Ho Kang, etc. weren't included in many of the top prospects lists. So I looked on Twitter and in the comments section of each of these lists and for all of them I found where each site would have ranked those players.

*In total, there were 253 prospects who received some amount of points in my system.

Well...

Moncada was the consensus #8 prospect in my rankings. I think that is about where he should be.

Yadier Alvarez is a little lesser known. Fangraphs said he would be about #57. Baseball America had him receiving votes for Top 100. But not cracking their Top 100. (Full disclosure, originally I did mess up slightly, giving Andy Ibanez the #57 rank from BA instead of Yadier Alvarez... I have since corrected that. However, it didn't affect my team rankings.)

Yasmany Tomas was ranked #57 by Baseball America and would have been ranked #34 on Fangraphs and #60 by Baseball Prospectus. I think the consensus with him is he can hit (not like Abreu last year, tho) but the Diamondbacks are going to have trouble finding a place for him to play in the field.

Kang wouldn't be ranked in any of the four rankings. Most people don't even think he will beat out Jordy Mercer at shortstop. Even if he does, a lot of scouts don't think his hitting will translate to the MLB.
