So after taking a one year hiatus from attending Warped Tour, following a pretty impressive 10 year streak of going, I was wondering if I had it in me to go again this year. The lineup this year is solid, but there isn't anyone that's can't miss. If Hands Like Houses or Bring Me the Horizon were going to be there, then I'd go without giving it another thought. But there's still plenty of bands I wouldn't mind seeing. So why was I still missing the enthusiasm to go?
And that's it dawned on me... I'm fucking old. I started thinking about miserably sweating my balls off all day, getting kicked in the head in the pits, being surrounded by annoying 18 year old kids and realized I might be closer to the "get off my lawn" old guy than I am the youngsters at the show instagramming, periscoping, and twatting about their day.
So I took to youtube to check out some of the bands on the Warped Tour lineup to see if there's anyone that I haven't heard of that would be good to see. And I stumbled upon Jarred Alonge and his band Sunrise Skater Kids. Apparently Alonge is about my age (late 20's, almost 30) and a couple of his songs pretty much summed up how I feel. He's band makes music that is very similar to early 2000's rock and it's half rock, half observational/satirical/comedy.
Jarrod's impression of literally every lead singer at Warped Tour:
This song about that one dude in the pit at every show that just want's to be a dick and injure people. (They even talked about sending a 14 year old girl to the hospital, sound familiar Ryan?)
This is a medley using 2000's rock songs to talk about what it's like to get old and feel like you don't belong at places like Warped anymore.
This is a medely using pretty much every band I listen to.
